{"id":3625,"date":"2026-02-13T11:52:05","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T10:52:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highlandselencinar.es\/?p=3625"},"modified":"2026-10-16T14:16:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T12:16:14","slug":"brussels-brings-together-students-from-over-20-countries-for-a-un-simulation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highlandselencinar.es\/en\/brussels-brings-together-students-from-over-20-countries-for-a-un-simulation\/","title":{"rendered":"Brussels brings together students from over 20 countries for a UN simulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of January, Brussels hosted an international Model United Nations (MUN) conference, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highlandselencinar.es\/en\/private-secondary-education-madrid\/\">Secondary<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highlandselencinar.es\/en\/international-education-baccalaureate-madrid\/\">Sixth Form<\/a> students from over 20 countries took part in a UN simulation to debate artificial intelligence regulation and humanitarian crises.<\/p>\n<p>Held from 28 to 30 January at the Hilton Grand Place hotel and the European Parliament, the event replicated the structure and decision-making processes of the United Nations. Participants worked in English, conducted research, negotiated resolutions and took part in formal debates.<\/p>\n<p>Among more than 70 schools, the Highlands School El Encinar delegation received the <strong>\u201cOutstanding Delegation\u201d<\/strong> award, shared with only one French school. The judges highlighted the pupils\u2019 knowledge of the topics, preparation, active participation and leadership in drafting resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>Two pupils also received individual recognition: Roc\u00edo Torrico, representing Switzerland, and Mar\u00eda Rueda, representing the United Kingdom, received special mentions for the clarity of their contributions and their negotiation skills.<\/p>\n<p>The conference included committees such as the General Assembly, which focused on global frameworks for AI regulation, and the UNHCR committee, which addressed the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>Preparation was led by Ana Urda, chair of the CEU MUN Teen board, and included training in how the UN works, public speaking, negotiation and geopolitical analysis, culminating in a full simulation before the trip to Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the awards, the experience gave students practical insight into multilateral forums and international
